Hear about the reality behind medieval knightly tournaments when Hans Bonde invites you to a captivating lecture on the era of knighthood.
Historian (dr.phil. and retired professor.) Hans Bonde has published the book “Den Danske Riddertid” this year. He comes to the Danehof and gives lectures on Danish knightly culture.
About the book:
THE DANISH MIDDLE AGES WERE A TIME OF CHIVALRY
The Danish Middle Ages were a time of chivalry, with castles with knight's halls and with a knightly literature that paid tribute to the knight and his chosen but unattainable lady. Through knighthood, king and aristocracy were welded together—with the king as the first among equals.
In knightly orders, the power elite of the kingdom was linked to the king on the basis of common notions of honour and ritual. The awarding of knightly battles in the cathedral and magnificent games of knighthood, in which opponents with lances tried to crash each other off the saddle, were central to coronations and royal weddings.
The lecture takes place in Slotmøllen and lasts about 1.5 hours.
